This system is specifically designed for dose-controlled and spatially uniform deposition of liquid aerosols on cells cultured at the air/liquid interface. The aerosol is applied during a short time of approx. 3 minutes. The setup is designed for 6, 12 and 24-well sized inserts. The cultivation module is made of electropolished stainless steel. It can be heated by water circuit with an optional water bath.

How the Vitrocell Cloud works

After pipetting the suspension, exposure to the cell cultures takes place in three phases:

Phase 1: Emission Of Cloud

Phase 2: Homogeneous Mixing

Phase 3: Gravitational Settling

The VITROCELL^® Cloud can be used for aerosols generated from liquids and suspensions. Possible fields of application are screening for inhaled drugs and toxicity testing of inhaled substances including nanoparticle suspensions.

Different choices of nebulizers

The system offers a selection of three types of vibrating mesh nebulizers, with droplet MMAD ranges of 4.0 – 6.0 µm, 4.0 – 6.0 µm, 2.5 – 6.0 µm, and 4.0–6.0 µm, 12 µm, 17 µm, and 20 µm.

With a recommended nebulization volume of 70 -100 µL for the Cloud Starter Kit, the device is especially well-suited for experiments where only small amounts of test material are available.

Microbalance Sensor – Additional option

A choice of modules equipped with 1 Quartz Crystal Microbalance for dose monitoring is also available.
